Bryce is an Australia Post Legend

Bookmark

Bryce Courtenay is one of six Australian authors bestowed with the rare honour of featuring on this year's Australia Day stamp series, to be released today.

The Australia Post Legends Award honours living Australians who have made a lasting impression on our national identity and character.

The Legends will feature on 12 x 55c stamps, a first day cover, a set of maxicards and a prestige booklet. A commemorative biography, Novel Lives: Legends of the Written Word, by Jason Steger accompanies the stamp issue.
'The very concept and the reassurance of a stamp... it's a licence to travel and it goes anywhere in the world. That little imprimatur on an envelope containing all this personal stuff and you know it's going to get there! Now that's what a stamp can do,' Bryce said.

The stamps and book can be purchased at participating Australia Post outlets or on-line at www.auspost.com.au/legends

    Congratulations
The 'Persimmon Tree" was the first Bryce Courtenay book I read and given to me for the long flight from Australia to Canada. The weather in the upper atmosphere was rough. I was so glad to have this exciting novel for "reading material". I've just finished "Fishing For Stars" ---wow---They remind me of the many years I lived in Australia. This man IS my favorite author.

A delight to read about this recognition for Bryce. He is, in my opinion one of the very best of the mdern authors. He allows you to see the dust, smell the flowers, and share in an understanding of human nature, through both laughter and pain. He is a gift, not only to Australia, but to us all.

Bryce is such a wonderful and kind person. It will be a pleasure when i receive a letter with his smiling face on it.It's quite a mischevious smile too, don't you think.I think there are a few twists and turns for the current novel brewing in there.I also have the impression that the key to Bryce's writing lies with his ears and memory and a hell of an ability to sequence things.I'm jealous!

Well Deserved. He has become one of my favorite authors.
We are about the same age. Starting his writing career in later life is outstanding. I hope he lives to be 100 and writes many more!
